Kearney Township Board Meeting
July 3, 2017
Meeting called to order at 7:07pm.
Pledge of allegiance.
Roll call: present - Niepoth, Valuet, Hagood Petrie. Absent - Fleet.
No conflict of interest was noted.
Motion by Hagood supported by Valuet to approve the agenda, carried.
Motion by Valuet supported by Hagood to approve the minutes of June 5th, 2017 minutes,
Motion by Hagood supported by Valuet to approve the payments of the bills with the exception of one which needs more information, carried.
Public comment: Barb Bradford commented on new businesses and home based businesses in the township and is glad to see the growth. Roberta and Donald Lukins had a complaint about a
neighbors building and a fence.
Motion by Valuet supported by Hagood to approve the quote for installing a gate at Flewellen cemetery, carried.
The board reviewed appointments and swearing in dates of members of the Planning Commission, Zoning Board of Appeals and Board of Review and procedures.
It was decided by the board to contact the office of Miller and Cook and have a “Bring-Up” conducted rather than a full audit. Kearney Township only needs to have a full audit done every other year.
The security system has been checked and no issues were found.
The Supervisor reported on the meeting he attended concerning the County Road Commission and the outlook for future road repairs and maintenance. The costs of repairs are high which will limit what work can be done. To do all the roads that need to be done in the county would be over $47,000,000.00 (forty seven million dollars).
The board received a quote from Jim Smith to repaint to repaint the parking stripes at the township for $300 to $600 including materials. He also offered to power wash the back of the township building for an estimated $100 to $125. The board also approved removal of rust from the
front of the building. Motion by Hagood supported by Valuet to approve the bids for up to a total of $1,000 for everything, carried.
The board agreed to join other Antrim County and Montmorency County townships in hiring an attorney for the Riverside Energy Tax Tribunal case.
Motion by Valuet supported by Hagood to approve hiring the attorney representing the other townships, to represent Kearney Township. Roll call vote- yes Valuet, Petrie, Hagood and Niepoth, carried.
The Supervisor gave a report on the Ambulance Authority meeting he attended.
Trustee valuet gave a report on the Planning Commission and informed the board that there is property for sale at Craven Pond that the Township could use for a park.
