Kearney Township Board Meeting

April 3rd, 2017


The meeting was called to order at 7:00 p.m.

Pledge of allegiance.

Roll Call: Present – Niepoth, Valuet, Hagood Absent – Fleet, Petrie

No conflict of interest was noted.

Motion by Valuet, supported by Hagood to approve the agenda as presented. Motion carried.

Motion by Hagood, supported by Niepoth to approve the minutes of the March 6, 2017 minutes with corrections. Bryan Smith’s name was spelled incorrectly and needs to be corrected, and under the second Public Comment section the first sentence needs to be corrected to read “Bryan Smith was asked about the Mohrmann Park Trails and the property belonging to Echo Township.”. Motion carried with those corrections.

Motion by Valuet, supported by Hagood to approve the payment of the two bills presented. Motion carried.

Sherriff Dan Bean gave a report to the Board on the March 2017 stats for the township in comparison to the March 2016 stats. Sherriff Bean also informed the Board of a “Sharps Disposal Day” at Kalkaska Memorial Health Center on June 20th, September 13th, and December 6th for the collection of used needles, syringes, and lancets.

Old Business:

Motion by Valuet, supported by Hagood to approve the contract with Revolution Waste for the township clean-up. Motion carried. The dates are June 1st for outside the village and June 8th within the village.

New Business:

The board discussed how First Merit Bank now being part of Huntington Bank might affect our banking practices. The board will not be making any changes at this time.

Changing the amount a board member can spend without board approval was tabled until all board members are present.

The board discussed our policy in regards to board members and employees consulting attorneys. Everyone needs board approval before seeking legal advice with the exception of the supervisor, but the supervisor will still ask for board approval unless it’s an emergency.

Motion by Valuet, supported by Hagood to adjourn the meeting at 7:50 p.m. Motion carried.
